YOUTH SHOOTING PROGRAM
Eastern Washington Youth Outdoor Education
Foundation was started just a few years ago by Ellwood
Landt and his daughter Sally A. Scott and volunteers. We are the first in the
continental United States to offer such a program. The state of Alaska was the
very first state in the Union to start. The first group of Youth instruction
coaches were taught by the instructors from Alaska. Each year we are proud to
have sent 5 of our youths to the Washington State Tournament.
We use 12 and 20 gauge semi automatic shotguns and O/U's using
special low recoil ammo. Gun rental is free and the youths buy or provide their
own ammo. Of course vision and hearing protection is mandatory. The shotguns
vary in lengths to accommodate the different body structures of the individual
youths. The coaches check for gun fit, instruct about safety, teaching kids gun
mount/movement, how and when to break the clays, how to problem solve why they
aren't breaking their clays and how to correct their mistakes.
Its a great deal, use of a modern shotgun, 2 boxes of ammo (50 rounds),
targets, a certified coach-two hours of coaching, a chance to be able to
participate in the Washington State Tournament ( if the participant meets the
criteria) all this for $25. The program runs the spring season thru the fall
season, the first and third Saturday of each month, about April thru November.
We have several happy and very dedicated youths in our
program.
